Bits of Information
At what age should my child first see a dentist?

It is best to take your child to the dentist between six and twelve months of age. The earlier you begin, the better chance your dentist has to prevent problems. In addition to checking for decay and other problems, the dentist will teach you how to properly clean your child’s teeth daily, evaluate any adverse habits such as thumbsucking and identify your child’s fluoride needs. By starting dental visits at an early age, you will help your child build a lifetime of good dental habits

At around 2 ½ to 3 years of age, the dentist will suggest that your child have a regular visit that will include a cleaning, a fluoride treatment, necessary x-rays, and a complete examination.

REMEMBER, THAT BEDTIME OR REST TIME BOTTLE, CAN CAUSE CAVITIES! AFTER AGE ONE, NEVER PUT YOUR BABY TO SLEEP WITH A BOTTLE CONTAINING ANYTHING EXCEPT WATER!!

What about Teething?

The discomfort of teeth erupting or coming into the mouth can cause your infant to become irritable. Some signs of teething are fussiness, drooling and the urge to mouth objects. Contrary to popular belief, fever is not normal while teething. If your child has a fever while teething, you should call your physician. You can ease some of the discomfort by lightly rubbing your baby's gums with a clean finger or a wet gauze pad. A cool teething ring can also help to soothe your child's tender gums.
